Every college nurture the dream of growing and to be recognised as a catalyst in the field of learning and education. Sheth H.P. Arts and T.S.M Commerce College Talod, the oldest college offering co-education in Sabarkantha, a rural district of Gujarat, was established in 1960. The foundation stone of the college was laid down by Late Shri Guljarilal Nanda, then Prime Minister of India.
The college has been striving hard to keep up pace with the changing milieu of the higher education since its inception. The college continues to be guided by the traditions and goals set by the founding fathers while imparting qualitative education and playing a pivotal role in the development of the socio-economical condition of the area.
Being the first in the district the college has set quite a few examples and paved path for other colleges to follow. Over the years the college has been instrumental in providing an environment of equal opportunity for all irrespective of their castes, sex, religion and economical background. Almost eighty percent of the students enrolled belong to backward classes. One of the policies of the college is admission for all. Since its beginning the college had made a point to take care of economically weak students by waiving their fees.
Since its first cycle of accreditation the college has sincerely attempted to upgrade its ability in all the relevant fields as recommended by the NAAC Peer Team. The college has set clear goal and every activity is geared towards achieving them. The college strives for the overall development of the students by providing them a wide range of academic programmes, experienced and dedicated faculty and finding ways to bridge the gap between college and the society.
The college through its faculty members keep up with the current trends and ever changing scenario of the time. Faculty members take great pain to aware students about the demands, opportunity and applicability of the courses. The college is abuzz with activities round the year. Seminars, workshops, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, outreach programmes help bring the college and society on the same platform.
The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) implemented by the University has also infused new vitality into the education system by providing flexibility to the students in selecting from a wide range of programmes at the Under Graduate level. Keeping in mind the importance of Master degree, the college offers programmes like Gujarati, Hindi, English, Commerce, Sanskrit and Economics at Post Graduate level.
Seeing the demand of English, the college provides for students online English test conducted by SCOPE (Society for Creation of Opportunity through Proficiency in English) with the partnership of The Cambridge University (U.K).
The College has a well furnished Computer Laboratory. The college also has a Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University study centre to facilitate students, locals, government employees, professionals and house wives to take various skilled based courses offered by the centre.
The college has sufficient infrastructure to cater the diversified needs of the students helping them in nurturing their academic and overall development. The college has a multi-utility hall, a gymnasium free for students and locals, firing range and a huge play ground with a four hundred meter running track.
The college has a commendable track record of students’ participation in sports, NCC and NSS. Every year students make the college proud by achieving extraordinary feats at events and programmes organised at college and university level. The community involvement programme undertaken by the NSS unit is quite exemplary. The college has been University Champion in Cricket, Weight-Lifting and Best Physique thanks to the outstanding performance of the students under the able guidance of the Physical Director.
The college aims at shaping the youth into remarkable individuals who can understand their roles and responsibility towards the society and making them ‘educated’ in real sense. With limited resources and in fast changing times the college believes that hope and hurdles are partners yet promises are to be kept. Education is ensured and assured at any cost.
