Talod once was a gateway to Sabarkantha. The area was economically and educationally backward. Higher education still was a distant dream. In those trying days two visionaries Late Shri Chunibhai Patel and Shri Jayshankerbhai Upadhyay made this area their ‘Karma Bhumi’ and left no stones unturned for the overall development of this place including (education). They had a very clear idea that if the area had to develop then education would play a very important role. They believed in the motto of Education First.
First seed was sown in the form of establishing a Trust named Shri C.D.Patel Mahavidya Mandal, Talod in 1959 for the purpose of imparting higher education to the students of surrounding areas. The Trust began its journey with the following mission.
Arts College was established to fulfill these missions as early as 1960 by the Trust. The foundation stone of the college was laid down by the then Prime Minister Late Shri Gulzarilal Nanda. One of the main features of the college was that it began its teaching in its own building. This beginning inspired many more colleges that followed in the coming years in the surrounding areas.
Later on one more feather was added in the cap in the form of Commerce College established in 1975. Hostels for boys and girls were constructed to accommodate students from far off places and to provide them a hassle free education helping them to concentrate more on studies. Such educational Institutes directly promote the socio-economic development of the people by uplifting the condition of the people through education.
Since 1960 the college has developed leaps and bounds under the able guidance of many visionary Principals. The college kept on soaring new heights right from its early days. This became possible only because of the democratic and conducive environment provided by the Trustees. The responsibility of imparting higher education was equally shouldered both by Trustees and teaching and non-teaching staff.
As a Principal my sole purpose is to provide equal opportunities and a conducive environment for research among the lecturers and students. The college offers a wide range of programs at both Undergraduate and Post Graduate level to give students more flexibility in the choice of their subjects both in arts and commerce faculty with an intention to provide hassle free education to the students of the rural base.
The college has a well furnished and updated. There is a study center of Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University since year 2000 provinding students with the facility of distant education for those who could not attend regular college.
